Deutsche Pfandbriefbank's U.S. Exit Could Lead to Annual Loss -- Market Talk

1152 GMT - Deutsche Pfandbriefbank's portfolio winddown will likely lead to major extraordinary costs which could result in losses this year, Warburg Research says in a note. The German lender said it will withdraw from its commercial property financing business in the U.S. There should be good demand from potential buyers for these assets, which make up a portfolio with a total volume of 4.1 billion euros, analyst Andreas Plaesier writes. The group's indication that it expects to maintain its CET1 capital ratio of 14% at all times is helpful to determine the expected maximum loss in the event of a reduction, which he calculates at around 200 million euros. The reduction should release equity which can be used to invest in its new European business, expand the commission business or enhance capital distributions. Shares fall 2.6%, extending yesterday's losses. (elena.vardon@wsj.com)
