BlockBeats reported on June 18 that Polygon co-founder Jordi Baylina announced on social media that he and the core zkEVM team have officially begun operating independently, launching a new project named Zisk. This transition coincides with the Polygon Foundation's plan to gradually shut down the underutilized Zero-Knowledge Proof EVM network.

According to reports, Zisk will focus on developing a low-latency, open-source zkVM verification technology. The project, initially incubated within Polygon Labs starting in May 2024, officially completed its spin-off on June 13. Per the spin-off agreement, all intellectual property and the core team behind Polygon zkEVM have been transferred to the Swiss company SilentSig GmbH, wholly owned by Baylina. Baylina retains his title as Polygon co-founder and will serve as an advisor.

Last week, another co-founder, Sandeep Nailwal, who recently took over as the Foundation's CEO, announced plans to phase out the zkEVM chain and reallocate resources to focus on the development of the Polygon PoS network and the AggLayer cross-chain aggregation protocol.
