U.S. natural gas inventories likely rose last week, expanding the storage surplus as mild weather kept demand in check.

Natural gas in underground storage is expected to have increased by 98 billion cubic feet to 2,805 Bcf in the week ended June 13, according to the average estimate of 10 analysts, brokers and traders in a Wall Street Journal survey. Estimates range from an injection of 89 Bcf to an injection of 108 Bcf.

It would raise the surplus over the five-year average to 165 Bcf from 139 Bcf the week before. The five-year average storage injection for the week was 2,640 Bcf.

Because of the Juneteenth holiday, the U.S. Energy Information Administration is scheduled to report weekly inventory levels on Wednesday, instead of the usual Thursday release, at 10:30 a.m. EDT.
