TPG Telecom (ASX:TPG) received a formal warning from the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) for allegedly breaching emergency call service rules after it failed to promptly report a network outage to Telstra (ASX:TLS), according to a statement from the regulator on Monday.

ACMA said the rules require carriers to notify Telstra, the provider handling emergency calls, as soon as they detect an outage. It found no evidence of harm to customers during the outage.

The outage on Aug. 15, 2024, lasted over an hour, leaving most 4G users unable to make calls, ACMA said. TPG became aware of the issue at 1:22 am but did not notify Telstra until 9:07 am, the regulator added.

ACMA said it received confirmation from TPG that the delay was due to human error and that relevant staff have been retrained, with annual refresher training now in place.

TPG did not immediately respond to a request for comment by MT Newswires.
