Supreme Court Asks for Government's View on Bayer's Roundup Case -- Market Talk

1108 ET - The Supreme Court has asked the Trump administration for its view in Bayer's latest bid to challenge the Roundup weedkiller litigation that has cost it billions of dollars. Bayer's latest attempt to get the court to narrow the litigation that has dogged it for nearly a decade argues that users of Roundup can't sue it because regulators have said glyphosate, the main ingredient, doesn't require a cancer warning label. Bayer will now have to wait several more months for a decision. "We see this request as an encouraging step and look forward to hearing the views of the government," said Bayer CEO Bill Anderson in a statement. Analysts at BMO Capital Markets had given the company a 20% to 25% chance of a favorable ruling if SCOTUS requested an opinion from the solicitor general. (patrick.thomas@wsj.com)
