0939 ET - Wedbush expects more M&A in the building materials distribution sector given the underlying market dynamics. Home Depot this week announced it will buy building-products distributor GMS for about $4.3 billion, winning a bidding war with roofing-products distributor QXO. Analyst Jay McCanless notes that the government's monthly new residential sales report shows new residential sales are equivalent to home builder orders. He believes outsized growth among the larger builders is a key reason QXO is focused on buying and improving larger distribution businesses. "Assuming the larger builders continue taking share, we believe those companies will need distribution partners that can increase their scope and scale to service those builders," says McCanless.
