1. Transportation System in Indonesia is Yet to Be Integrated, Says Minister

Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), said that the transportation system in Indonesia has not been fully integrated. According to him, the government needs to complete the Draft Law on the National Transportation System (RUU Sistranas) so that this problem can be resolved.

"This Sistranas is important and we must complete it immediately, so that it can be an umbrella for various other aspects of transportation," said Agus in his written statement, Wednesday, July 2, 2025.

According to him, the RUU Sistranas is a legal basis for the process of planning a transportation system in an integrated national network. "Of course we need to integrate all of this, so that the planning and management of the national transportation system across modes and also across regions will be better in the future," he said.

2. Indonesia Seeks Lower Tariffs Than Vietnam in Ongoing U.S. Negotiations

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto expressed optimism that Indonesia's negotiations with the United States over reciprocal tariffs will lead to favorable outcomes.

He hopes that Indonesia will secure lower tariffs than Vietnam, which has finalized a 20 percent rate. Goods routed through Vietnam from other countries are currently subject to a 40 percent tariff.

"If Vietnam has 20 to 40 percent, we certainly hope for a better deal than that," Airlangga said at his office in Lapangan Banteng, Jakarta, on Thursday, July 3, 2025.

The United States Senate approved President Donald Trump's proposed Tax Cut and Spending Reduction Bill on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. Known as the "One Big Beautiful Bill," the legislation will now proceed to the House of Representatives for further consideration.

If passed, the bill would represent a major shift in Trump’s fiscal policy. It includes $4.5 trillion in tax cuts along with $1.2 trillion in budget reductions, targeting areas such as border security, military defense, and national energy projects.

The bill also proposes to extend the tax reductions introduced under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, which are set to expire at the end of this year.

According to Investopedia, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) is a budget reconciliation package that combines various proposals related to government spending, revenue, and debt. The 2025 version covers the federal budget, new tax breaks, and an increase in the U.S. debt ceiling.
