TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, hopes that the death of Juliana Marins on Mount Rinjani will not disrupt the good relationship between Indonesia and Brazil.

Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to visit Brazil to attend the BRICS Summit 2025 on July 6-7, 2025.

"The President currently embarks on an official visit to Brazil to attend the BRICS Summit. We hope all parties ensure that the incident involving Juliana Marins' death does not disrupt the good relationship between the Indonesian and Brazilian governments," Yusril said on Friday, July 4, 2025.

Yusril mentioned that the Indonesian government has yet to receive any official letter or diplomatic note from the Brazilian government regarding the death of the Brazilian climber. Indonesia has only received statements from the Federal Public Defender's Office (DPU) of Brazil.

However, Yusril pointed out that the agency has no real authority, as it is an independent human rights institution, similar to Indonesia's National Commission on Human Rights.

The former chair of the Crescent Star Party (PBB) said the agency independently monitors and investigates reports of human rights violations. Yusril said Juliana's family requested the DPU to investigate the case. DPU has also requested a re-autopsy of Juliana Marins' body.

"The government respects and values the family's wish to conduct a re-autopsy to obtain the desired results," he said.

Nevertheless, Yusril believes that the results of the re-autopsy will not differ significantly from the results of the autopsy conducted in an Indonesian hospital. So far, the autopsy results have indicated that Juliana's death occurred between 15 and 30 minutes after the fall. "Based on applicable forensic standards, the results will not significantly differ between the autopsy conducted in Denpasar and the autopsy conducted in Brazil," he said.

Previously, the DPU planned to pursue legal action if the re-autopsy of the late Juliana Marins yielded different results. Legal action will be taken if the autopsy indicates negligence that led to the 26-year-old woman's death. Marins died after falling while hiking Mount Rinjani on June 21 and was only evacuated by rescuers after four days due to numerous obstacles.
