Algoma Steel Group Inc. has announced the commencement of steel production from its newly established Electric Arc Furnace $(EAF)$ Unit One in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. This development is part of the company's state-of-the-art project aimed at producing steel with reduced carbon emissions. The production unit, which has gone through extensive electric arc testing, is expected to significantly lower the company's carbon footprint by up to 70%. The steel produced will be branded under the name Volta, reflecting its lower environmental impact. The initiative aligns with Algoma's efforts to contribute to the growth of a low-carbon economy, leveraging Ontario's clean electricity grid.
