Fujitsu Ltd. said Wednesday it is working with the U.K. government "regarding Fujitsu's contribution to compensation" for victims of the U.K. Post Office scandal, which was caused by a defect in its subsidiary's accounting system.

A recommendation was issued Tuesday following a statutory inquiry, initiated by the U.K. government, urging the government and Fujitsu to expedite measures to provide comprehensive relief for the wrongfully accused and their families.

The recommendation called for an outline of the relief measures to be made public by the end of October.

The U.K. government has already paid about 1.1 billion pound (about 220 billion yen) in compensation by the end of June this year, and Fujitsu has stated it will cover some of the cost. Fujitsu will continue discussions on the specific amount with the U.K. government.

"We hope for a swift resolution that ensures a just outcome for the victims," Fujitsu said in a statement.
