Average daily ethanol production and total ethanol inventories reported by the U.S. Energy Information Administration fell on the low end of analyst expectations.

In its weekly report published Wednesday, the EIA said average daily production for the week ended July 11 was 1.082 million barrels a day. That's down 6,000 barrels a day from the prior week, and landed on the low side of the 1.08 million barrels to 1.1 million barrels a day forecast by analysts surveyed by Dow Jones.

Inventories totaled 23.64 million barrels, down 324,000 barrels from the previous week. That's also on the low end of analyst forecasts, with analysts looking for anywhere from 23.6 million barrels to 24.1 million barrels.

The reduced stocks comes after AAA projected that a record number of drivers hit the road for both Independence Day and Memorial Day this summer. The higher amount of drivers and gradual proliferation of E15 blended gasoline appears to be bolstering ethanol demand.

Corn futures trading on the CBOT are up 0.8% in morning trade, at $4.23 a bushel.
