TotalEnergies (TTE) can resume development of its liquefied natural gas project in Mozambique as the government has taken security measures to reduce rebel attacks in the area, Reuters reported Monday, citing the country's energy minister Estevao Pale as quoted by Portuguese news agency Lusa.

TotalEnergies Chief Executive Patrick Pouyanne met with Mozambique President Daniel Chapo on Thursday to discuss the possible resumption of the project this summer, according to the report.

The company paused construction in 2021 after Islamic State-linked militants launched attacks that threatened the project site in Afungi, northern Mozambique, the report said.

"At the government level, all the conditions are being created to allow investors to restart activities as quickly as possible," Lusa quoted Pale as saying.

TotalEnergies did not immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
