CF Industries Holdings Inc. has announced the start-up of a new carbon dioxide dehydration and compression facility at its Donaldsonville Complex in Louisiana. This facility is designed to facilitate the transportation and permanent geological sequestration of up to 2 million metric tons of CO2 annually, which would otherwise be emitted into the atmosphere. Partnering with ExxonMobil, CF Industries is advancing its decarbonization efforts, aiming to reduce emissions and increase the production of low-carbon ammonia. The company also expects to benefit from tax credits under Section 45Q of the Internal Revenue Code for CO2 storage. ExxonMobil is initially storing CO2 through enhanced oil recovery, with plans to transition to dedicated permanent storage pending regulatory approvals.
