BHP Group Expects Capital Expenditure for Canada Potash Project's First Stage to Be Up to $7 Billion; Shares Rise 3%

BHP Group (ASX:BHP) said that the stage one of the Jansen potash project in Saskatchewan, Canada is 68% complete, and it estimates capital expenditure for the first stage to be in the range of $7 billion to $7.4 billion, with the first production to revert to the original schedule of mid-2027, according to a Friday statement.

The mining firm also said that it was considering extending first production from the second stage of the potash project to fiscal 2031, as part of its regular review of capital expenditure sequencing under the capital allocation framework. It added that there was potential for additional potash supply coming to market in the medium term.

Its shares advanced almost 3% in recent trading on Friday.
