Microsoft (MSFT) SharePoint software flaws were exploited by hackers to breach systems at the US National Nuclear Security Administration, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing a person familiar with the matter.
The breach at the nuclear agency did not involve sensitive or classified data, according to the report.
Microsoft warned that Chinese state-sponsored groups were behind the recent attacks.
"Microsoft has observed two named Chinese nation-state actors, Linen Typhoon and Violet Typhoon exploiting these vulnerabilities targeting internet-facing SharePoint servers. In addition, we have observed another China-based threat actor, tracked as Storm-2603, exploiting these vulnerabilities. Investigations into other actors also using these exploits are still ongoing," the company said in a blog post.
Microsoft, US Department of Energy and US National Nuclear Security Administration did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
