Covalent Lithium, a joint venture between Wesfarmers and Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile $(SQM)$, has announced the completion of major construction at its Kwinana lithium hydroxide refinery in Western Australia. This marks a significant milestone in creating a fully-integrated lithium operation in the region. The facility is expected to produce approximately 50,000 tonnes of battery-grade lithium hydroxide annually, supporting the rising global demand for electric vehicles. While final commissioning activities are underway, the Mt Holland mine and concentrator continue to ramp up production, aiming to reach over 80% capacity by 2025. Covalent is also advancing plans for an expansion, although a final investment decision on this will not occur in the 2025 calendar year. The company remains focused on meeting the quality requirements for electric vehicle batteries as it prepares for the ramp-up to full capacity.
