1716 ET - Steel Dynamics is hopeful that a period of sluggish steel orders will eventually turn into a burst of pent-up demand. On-and-off tariffs have made customers more hesitant about placing orders, Chief Executive Mark Millett says. That resulted in lower steel and steel fabrication shipments in 2Q. But Millett believes "a strong market environment will emerge" after uncertainty fades, certain imports decline and manufacturing in the U.S. increases. He says Steel Dynamics' lower carbon emissions and domestic manufacturing will make it an attractive option for customers. Shares fall 4% in after-hours trading. (katherine.hamilton@wsj.com)
