S&P 500 SCORES "PERFECT WEEK" OF RECORDS
The S&P 500 .SPX registered its fifth straight record closing high on Friday, its longest run of record closing highs since July 2024 when the index posted six in a row.
"It was a perfect week from a market performance basis," says Howard Silverblatt, Senior Index Analyst at S&P Dow Jones Indices in New York, who noted that the last time the index closed at records for an entire week, Monday through Friday, was in November 2021, when it had a record run of eight days.
It was also the 14th record closing high of the year for the index, while Friday marked the Nasdaq's .IXIC 15th all-time high finish. The Dow .DJI finished higher on Friday, but is down 0.25% from its December 4, 2024 record closing high.
Silverblatt notes that the S&P 500 has had 24 record closing highs since the November 5, 2024 election of U.S. President Donald Trump for a second term.
Mostly strong earnings and recent trade deals have supported stocks recently.
On Friday, optimism that the U.S. could soon get a trade deal with the European Union helped the indexes. Some upbeat earnings news from companies including Deckers Outdoors DECK.N also helped the market on Friday.
