O'Reilly Stays Conservative on Consumer Confidence -- Market Talk

Dow Jones

1430 ET - O'Reilly Automotive is clocking some uncertainty among consumers despite a broader market recovery from a volatile start to this year. The car part provider says its discretionary category, which makes up a relatively small portion of its business, showed softness in 2Q. "The continued sluggishness in these categories is an indicator that consumers are still remaining cautious and conservative in how they are managing the spend in the current environment," CEO Brad Beckham says on an analyst call. He says O'Reilly's guidance is conservative to account for the possibility that consumers will pull back more in the second half of the year if prices rise. (katherine.hamilton@wsj.com)
