Market Chatter: Spotify Gets Probed by House Judiciary Committee Over Free Speech Censorship

Spotify (SPOT) is being investigated by the US House Judiciary Committee over whether the EU and the Biden administration pressured it to censor free speech, The New York Post reported Tuesday, citing a letter by US Congressman Jim Jordan.

Jordan sent a letter to Spotify Chief Executive Daniel Ek, criticizing new EU and UK laws that require social media platforms, even US-based ones, to suppress "disinformation" and "harmful content" or face significant fines, the report said.

The Committee has ordered Spotify to preserve all documents and communications with foreign governments and individuals tied to the White House, with a deadline of Aug. 12 to deliver these to Congress, the report said.

Spotify, the House Judiciary Committee, the White House, and the EU didn't immediately reply to MT Newswires' requests for comments.
