Pony.ai is accelerating efforts to mass-produce driverless cabs, aiming to deploy 1,000 robotaxis by year-end through partnerships with GAC, BAIC, and Toyota, the South China Morning Post reported Tuesday, citing an interview with the autonomous driving firm's co-founder, Lou Tiancheng.
The Nasdaq-listed company recently secured a permit to charge fares in Shanghai's Pudong New Area, where it will initially operate across a 40 sq km zone, according to the report.
Pony.ai has also expanded full-time robotaxi services in Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, it added.
Lou reportedly said the company is seeking global expansion in Hong Kong, South Korea, the Middle East, and Europe.
Pony.ai is also exploring new revenue streams, including infotainment services and autonomous driving systems for automakers, SCMP wrote.
