Alibaba Group's (HKG:9988, HKG:89988) artificial intelligence models are gaining ground against rival DeepSeek's offerings, the South China Morning Post reported Monday, citing usage data.
DeepSeek, which controlled virtually all of the open-source AI model usage on Chinese cloud computing platform PPIO in Q1, reportedly saw a fall in its share by around one-fifth to 80% in June.
Concurrently, Alibaba's Qwen models saw usage rise, reaching 56% at their peak in late May.
Between January and June, usage of Alibaba's models went from below 1% to over 10%, based on PPIO data, the report said.
