** Shares of U.S. utility AES Corp AES.N up 4.4% at $13.54

** Company beats Q2 profit estimates late on Thursday, driven by higher earnings from its renewables segment and a lower tax rate

** Posts Q2 adjusted profit of 51 cents/share vs estimate of 40 cents/share - data compiled by LSEG

** Revenue at its renewables segment rose 4% to $644 million in Q2, while the utilities unit reported over a 6% jump to $954 million

** Including session's moves, AES up 5.1% YTD
