Financial stocks were lower late Friday afternoon, with the NYSE Financial Index falling 1.5% and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF) down 1.8%.
The Philadelphia Housing Index was climbing 1.6%, and the Real Estate Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLRE) was flat.
Bitcoin (BTC-USD) was declining 3.3% to $113,305, and the yield for 10-year US Treasuries dropped 13.8 basis points to 4.22%.
In economic news, President Donald Trump said Friday on Truth Social that he has instructed his team to fire Erika McEntarfer, commissioner of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that nonfarm payrolls rose 73,000 in July. The consensus was for a 104,000 increase, according to a Bloomberg survey. The BLS said the revisions for May and June were "larger than normal," with gains downgraded by 133,000 to 14,000 for June and by 125,000 for May.
In corporate news, Ares Management (ARES) shares were 1.7% lower following its Q2 results.
DigitalBridge (DBRG) is in talks to raise up to $1 billion through a stake sale in the Asia Pacific business of Vantage Data Centers, Bloomberg reported. DigitalBridge shares were falling 3.4%.
Coinbase (COIN) shares were falling past 15% after several analysts cut their price targets on the stock following its Q2 results that missed market expectations.
Blackstone (BX) is the frontrunner to acquire data provider Enverus in a $6 billion deal, Reuters reported. Blackstone shares were down 1.6%.
