Earnings season marches on, with quarterly results from Berkshire Hathaway, Palantir and McDonald's among the highlights over the next week. This past week featured results from four companies in the "Magnificent Seven," plus President Trump's reciprocal tariff deadline and a weak July jobs report. Here's what to watch for next:
Saturday, Aug. 2
-- Berkshire Hathaway is expected to report quarterly earnings. CEO Warren Buffett has previously said the company reports earnings on a Saturday to give investors more time to analyze results before the market opens on Monday.
Monday, Aug. 4
-- Economic data: Durable goods orders and factory orders for June
-- Earnings: Palantir, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Tyson Foods, Hims & Hers Health
Tuesday, Aug. 5
-- Economic data: Trade data from June, and reports on services PMI for July
-- Earnings: Advanced Micro Devices, Caterpillar, Amgen, Pfizer, Marriott International, Snap, Yum! Brands
Wednesday, Aug. 6
-- Earnings: Novo Nordisk, McDonald's, Walt Disney, Uber, Shopify, Sony, DoorDash, Airbnb, Honda Motor, Zillow
-- Fed speaker: Fed governor Lisa Cook speaks on the economy. It's the first scheduled speech from a U.S. central-bank governor since Friday's weak jobs report opened the door to a possible rate cut in September.
-- Treasury auction: 10-year notes
-- Economic data: MBA mortgage-rate data, Crude-oil inventories
Thursday, Aug. 7
-- Tariff launch date: Under President Trump's most recent plan, the administration will raise levies on scores of nations starting Thursday.
-- Economic data: Second quarter productivity and costs and weekly jobless claims. Also, the Federal Reserve's data on consumer credit.
-- Earnings: Eli Lilly, Toyota Motor, Live Nation, Restaurant Brands International
-- Treasury auction: 30-year bonds
Friday, Aug. 8
-- Fed speaker: St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem is scheduled to speak at a Mississippi Delta event
