Ameren Illinois Co. has initiated the construction of the Peoria Solar Energy Center, a new solar energy facility in Peoria. This 2.5-megawatt center is expected to generate enough electricity to power 420 homes and businesses, contributing to the region's economic growth. The facility, which is the company's third renewable power generation project in nearly three decades, is part of Ameren Illinois' efforts to meet the increasing electricity demand in Downstate Illinois. The project aligns with the state's Climate and Equitable Jobs Act, aiming for a clean energy goal of 100% by 2050. The Peoria Solar Energy Center will feature nearly 5,000 solar panels on a 37-acre site, enhancing the company's commitment to renewable energy and regional economic development.
