Major electric vehicle (EV) makers mostly saw an increase in insurance registrations in China last week, as deliveries typically rise toward the end of the month.

During the week of July 28 to August 3 -- week 31 of 2025 -- Nio (NYSE: NIO) brand vehicles had 3,450 insurance registrations in China, up 6.15 percent from 3,250 the previous week, according to figures shared by several automotive industry observers on Weibo today.

Nio's sub-brand Onvo registered 3,700 vehicles last week, the second highest on record, up 145.03 percent from 1,510 the previous week.

Its other sub-brand, Firefly, registered 780 vehicles last week, up 239.13 percent from 230 the previous week.

Nio Inc, which includes the Nio, Onvo, and Firefly brands, registered 7,930 vehicles for insurance in China last week, the highest in the past 14 weeks, up 58.60 percent from 5,000 the previous week.

Onvo's significant growth was driven by the L90, its flagship electric SUV (sport utility vehicle), which was launched on July 31 and began deliveries the following day on August 1.

Onvo produced a large number of vehicles in advance for the L90 to enable rapid delivery.

Additionally, Firefly president Daniel Jin said last Tuesday that the brand had completed production line adjustments, and production would run at full speed with faster deliveries.

Nio Inc delivered 21,017 vehicles in July, marking the fourth consecutive month exceeding the 20,000-unit threshold, according to data released on August 1.

This represents a 2.53 percent increase from the 20,498 units delivered in the same period last year, though it marks a 15.68 percent decrease from the 24,925 units delivered in June.

Nio's main brand delivered 12,675 vehicles in July, Onvo delivered 5,976 units, and Firefly delivered 2,366 units.

Firefly will begin deliveries in Norway and the Netherlands on August 14, Nio announced yesterday.

Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) had 11,020 insurance registrations in China last week, up 3.77 percent from 10,620 the previous week.

The US EV maker has a factory in Shanghai that produces the Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover, which are delivered to local customers and also serve as an export hub.

It will launch the six-seat Model Y L in China this fall, which is larger than the five-seat Model Y.

Tesla China sold 67,886 vehicles in July, including those sold in China and exported from China to overseas markets, according to data released yesterday by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

This represents a decrease of 8.41 percent from the 74,117 vehicles sold in the same period last year and a decrease of 5.19 percent from the 71,599 vehicles sold in June.

Tesla's July delivery figures in China and export numbers from its Shanghai factory are currently unavailable.

Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) had 9,070 insurance registrations last week, up 7.98 percent from the previous week's 8,400.

It delivered 36,717 vehicles in July, surpassing its previous record of 36,695 units in December 2024 and setting a new high.

This marks the ninth consecutive month that Xpeng's monthly deliveries have exceeded 30,000 units since November 2024, representing a year-on-year increase of 229.45 percent and a 6.08 percent increase from June's 34,611 units.

Xpeng will debut its next-generation P7 electric sedan on August 6.

Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) registered 5,480 vehicles last week, down 25.95 percent from 7,400 the previous week, a new low in the past 25 weeks.

The company launched the Li i8, its first pure electric SUV, on July 29.

Earlier today, Li Auto relaunched the Li i8, reducing the available variants from three to one and lowering the price following disappointing initial acceptance.

The company delivered 30,731 vehicles in July, down 39.74 percent year-on-year and down 15.29 percent month-on-month.

This marks the second consecutive month of year-on-year decline in monthly deliveries for Li Auto, with year-to-date deliveries totaling 234,669 units, down 2.21 percent year-on-year.

BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) brand vehicles saw 60,930 insurance registrations last week, up 3.60 percent from 58,810 the previous week.

The company sold 344,296 vehicles in July, up 0.56 percent year-on-year but down 10.01 percent from June.

Earlier today, BYD announced that its latest technology has further reduced fuel consumption of its fifth-generation DM (Dual Mode) hybrid technology to just 2.6 liters per 100 kilometers when the battery is depleted, down 10 percent from the previous 2.9 liters.

Xiaomi (HKG: 1810, OTCMKTS: XIACY) had 7,580 insurance registrations last week, a decrease of 0.13 percent from the previous week's 7,590 units.

Xiaomi EV delivered over 30,000 vehicles in July, the Xiaomi unit announced on Weibo on August 1.

On June 26, Xiaomi officially launched the YU7, its first electric SUV and a competitor to the Tesla Model Y.

The YU7 received 200,000 firm orders within the first three minutes of sales and over 240,000 locked-in orders within 18 hours, according to Xiaomi's previous announcement.

On July 6, Xiaomi EV began deliveries of the YU7.

Zeekr (NYSE: ZK) brand's insurance registrations last week totaled 2,910 units, a decrease of 11.82 percent from the previous week's 3,300 units.

The Zeekr brand delivered 16,977 vehicles in July, representing a year-on-year increase of 8.44 percent and a month-on-month increase of 1.65 percent.

Lynk & Co delivered 27,216 vehicles in July, up 27.94 percent year-on-year and up 3.44 percent month-on-month.

Including these two brands, Zeekr Group delivered 44,193 vehicles in July, up 2.75 percent from 43,012 in June.

Leapmotor (HKG: 9863) had 10,180 insurance registrations last week, up 17.01 percent from the previous week's 8,700.

The company delivered 50,129 vehicles in July, marking its first monthly delivery exceeding the 50,000 unit threshold, up 126.90 percent from the same period last year and 4.42 percent from June's 48,006 units.

Aito -- the brand jointly developed by Huawei and Seres Group -- had 9,610 insurance registrations last week, a decrease of 8.65 percent from the previous week's 10,520 units.
