Much of the world received their latest tariff rates from President Trump this week, but next week brings another key deadline-for the extension of the U.S. trade truce with China. Earnings are coming from big companies including Deere, Cisco Systems and Applied Materials. Tuesday also brings consumer inflation data. The report will be closely followed by investors trying to pinpoint how many interest-rate cuts the Federal Reserve will make for the rest of 2025. Here's what to watch:

Saturday, Aug. 9

-- Fed speaker: Federal Reserve Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman is due to speak at a bankers' meeting in Colorado. Bowman was one of two Fed governors to dissent from the central bank's decision last month to hold interest rates steady.

Monday, Aug. 11

-- Earnings: Onetime meme stock AMC Entertainment $(AMC)$ reports after the close.

Tuesday, Aug. 12

-- Inflation report: July's consumer price index data is due at 8:30 a.m. ET. The core inflation reading, which excludes food and energy, is expected to come in at 3.1% year-over-year, slightly hotter than the prior month's 2.9%.

-- More data: The Treasury Department releases surplus and deficit figures for July, and the National Federation of Independent Business will disclose its index of small-business trends.

-- Tariff deadline: The U.S. and China have been discussing a possible three-month extension to an earlier trade truce that remains in place until Tuesday. See the latest on tariffs here.

-- Earnings: AI company CoreWeave (CRWV), crypto firm Circle Internet Group (CRCL).

Wednesday, Aug. 13

-- Earnings: Cisco Systems $(CSCO)$, after market close.

Thursday, Aug. 14

-- Economic data: The producer price index for July gives another indication of inflation. Weekly jobless claims are also due.

-- Earnings: Deere & Co. (DE), before the market opens. Applied Materials (AMAT), after the close.

Friday, Aug. 15

-- Economic data: Retail sales data, a preliminary reading on consumer sentiment from the University of Michigan, and July data on export and import prices. Also, the New York Fed's Empire State manufacturing survey and nationwide industrial-production numbers are due.
