Shares of Digimarc slid after the company reported a decline in revenue in its latest quarter.

The stock fell 25% to $8.28 on Friday. Shares are off by 78% this year.

The digital watermarking technologies company said Thursday that revenue declined to $8 million in the second quarter, compared with $10.4 million a year ago.

Subscription revenue fell to $4.6 million compared with $6.4 million, reflecting the expiration of two commercial contracts. Service revenue decreased to $3.4 million from $4 million, due to lower government service revenue from central banks, the company said.

Digimarc posted a loss of $8.2 million, or 38 cents a share, compared with a loss of $9.3 million, or 43 cents a share, a year earlier.

On an adjusted basis, loss per share was 11 cents.

Separately on Thursday, the company said Chief Revenue Officer Tom Benton will depart the company, effective Sept. 1.
