BMW is set to expand its capabilities with a new "Center for Special and Individual Paints" at its Dingolfing plant. The company is investing over 30 million euros to extend the existing vehicle paint shop, with construction beginning in September 2025 and production expected to start in spring 2027. The expansion will cover over 2,000 square meters and feature two work levels, allowing for a greater number of bespoke customer requests and special paint jobs to be processed more efficiently. Customers currently have the option to choose from up to 300 different paint colors, including unique two-tone designs and special coatings for limited editions such as the BMW 3.0 CSL and BMW M4 CS Edition VR46. The new facility is projected to employ a low double-digit number of staff, reducing processing time by roughly a quarter and lowering production costs. The drying process in the new area will utilize electricity rather than natural gas, aligning with energy-efficient practices. The facility will combine automated mass-production processes with hand-painted elements by specialists, optimizing the mix of automation and craftsmanship.
