IBM, NASA Release Open-Source AI Model to Predict Solar Weather

International Business Machines (IBM) said Wednesday that the company and NASA unveiled an open-source foundation artificial intelligence model aimed at interpreting solar observation data and predicting how solar activity affects Earth and space-based technology.

The model, called Surya, furthers space weather forecasting research, and provides a tool to help protect the likes of navigation systems, power grids, telecommunications from Sun's ever-changing nature, IBM said.
