Orange Belgium said a cyberattack on one of its IT systems led to an unauthorized access to some of its customers' data at the end of July.

The telecommunication company said Wednesday that the incident resulted in unauthorized access to certain data from 850,000 customer accounts. This includes access to surname, first name, telephone number, SIM card number, PUK code, tariff plan. However, no critical data was compromised, the company added.

Upon identifying the affected systems, Orange Belgium took steps to contain and remediate the incident, including blocking access to its systems and strengthening its security measures, it said. It also alerted the competent authorities and filed an official complaint with the judicial authorities.

The company won't be able to disclosed further details to ensure the integrity of the investigation and protect the privacy of those involved, it added.
