Semiconductor supplier Cirrus Logic said it has expanded its long-running partnership with GlobalFoundries to focus on developing more powerful chip technologies.
Cirrus said Tuesday that it is working with the chip maker to advance the development and commercialization of next-generation BCD process technology, which would allow for different functions to be combined into a single chip.
The new technology can be manufactured at GlobalFoundries' facility in Malta, N.Y., which would add a domestic component to existing manufacturing supply lines through Singapore and Germany, Cirrus said.
The two companies are also collaborating on the advancement of so-called Gallium Nitride technology that's being utilized in GlobalFoundries' facility in Essex Junction, Vt., according to Cirrus.
