Bunge Global (BG) redirected an Argentine soybean meal shipment originally bound for China to Southeast Asia over concerns it might not meet Chinese quality standards, Bloomberg reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Ship-tracking data showed the bulk carrier Nordtajo, which left Argentina in late July for Nansha in Guangzhou, is now listed for Singapore, a common stop for Asia-bound vessels, the report said.
The company plans to send China a separate cargo from Argentina at a later time; no further details were disclosed, the report said.
The diversion highlights the sensitivity surrounding the Argentina-China trade arrangement, as Beijing looks for alternative feed suppliers because of tensions with the US, the report added.
Bunge did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
