1442 ET - Hovnanian is increasing sales incentives to win over buyers who are uncertain about the economy, but that uncertainty can quickly change based on the news at the time, CEO Ada Hovnanian says. "There is a good headline, sales are good that week. If there is a bad world headline," sales will be worse. The company saw a 4% year-over-year decline in monthly contracts in May, but a 7% increase in monthly contracts in July. The company said that volatility extends a choppy environment of rising and falling sales that has lasted for two years and will likely continue. (nicholas.miller@wsj.com)
