Toshiba and Toyota Chemical Engineering (TCE) will jointly develop a binary generator using an amine-CO2 cycle, which they aim to commercialize by fiscal 2028.
The demonstration project is scheduled to run from June 2025 to March 2028, according to its statement on Thursday.
Toshiba has been developing the amine-CO2 cycle binary generator since 2017, which replaces high-global-warming-potential refrigerants with a safe amine-CO2 aqueous solution to efficiently generate power from low-temperature unused heat.
A 100kW-class generator will be installed at TCE's Handa Plant in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, to demonstrate the conversion of unused surplus heat into electrical energy, verifying the system's practical implementation.
