Planet Labs PBC has unveiled the first light images captured by its Pelican-3 satellite of Turin, Italy, taken from an altitude of 458 km. These images were released shortly after the satellite's launch on SpaceX's Falcon 9 NAOS mission in late August 2025. The image quality is anticipated to improve once the spacecraft completes its instrument calibration process and reaches its final operational orbit. This announcement highlights the rapid operational readiness of the Pelican satellites, which are equipped with advanced capabilities, including high resolution, rapid revisits, and AI processing powered by the NVIDIA Jetson platform. The Pelican satellites aim to provide high-resolution imagery across six multispectral bands, with the next generation expected to reach 30 cm imagery.
