Embraer Workers Begin Indefinite Strike at Brazil Factory

Embraer (ERJ) workers went on an indefinite strike Wednesday, demanding higher wages and rights, the metalworkers union from Sao Jose dos Campos said.

In the latest negotiations between the parties, the Federation of Industries of the State of Sao Paulo, which represents Embraer, proposed a salary adjustment only for inflation of 5.05%, short of workers' demand of 11%, the union said.

The union said the company's proposal of a 420 Brazilian real ($80) food voucher was also well short of its demands of 1,000 real.

"With the strike, 100% of the factory's production has stopped," the union said.

Embraer has denied that its operations were disrupted and was surprised by the union's action, as negotiations were still ongoing, Reuters reported, citing the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer.

Embraer did not immediately respond to an MT Newswires request for comment.
