Yomiuri: Nissan to Close 2 Overseas Design Centers

Nissan Motor Co. announced Wednesday it will close its design centers in San Diego and Sao Paulo by the end of March 2026 amid the firm's ongoing restructuring. As part of cost-cutting measures, it will consolidate its seven global design centers into five. The company has not disclosed the impact on employees affected by the closures.

The five hubs are in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo; Atsugi, Kanagawa Prefecture; Los Angeles; London; and Shanghai. The two domestic centers and the London center will be scaled down.

Nissan, suffering from sluggish global sales, posted a net loss of 670.8 billion yen for the fiscal year ending March 2025. The firm is implementing large-scale restructuring initiatives, including closing its Oppama plant in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, and cutting 20,000 jobs.
