Ameresco Inc., in partnership with Republic Services and U.S. Energy, has announced the completion of a renewable natural gas $(RNG)$ facility at the Lee County Landfill in Dixon, Illinois. This marks the 15th project in their ongoing collaboration. The facility captures landfill gas and processes it into pipeline-quality RNG, a low-carbon transportation fuel. Successfully injected into a natural gas transmission pipeline in June 2025, the facility is designed to process 4,500 standard cubic feet per minute of raw landfill gas. It is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 61,000 metric tons annually, equivalent to the emissions from more than 70 million gallons of gasoline. This initiative highlights a significant step towards reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting environmental sustainability by converting waste into clean energy.
