LG Uplus (KRX:032640) developed an on-device small language model (sLM) based on EXAONE 3.5 to enhance its AI call app ixi-O, the South Korean mobile network operator said in a Thursday release.

The sLM was developed in collaboration with LG AI Research Institute and OptAI.

The neural processing unit-based model will run directly on Qualcomm Snapdragon 8-powered smartphones and lowers power usage by 78% and size by 82% against CPU-based systems, the release said.

Shares of LG Uplus fell 1% in recent trade.
