Amgen said it would invest $650 million in expanding its U.S manufacturing network, a day after President Trump said he would impose a 100% tariff on pharmaceuticals produced by companies that are not building plants in the U.S.

Amgen said the investment would support production at the company's manufacturing facility in Juncos, Puerto Rico. The company said the expansion builds on recent investments in the U.S., including manufacturing expansions of $900 million in Ohio and $1 billion in North Carolina.

On Thursday, President Trump said he would impose a new 100% tariff on pharmaceuticals but that companies building out manufacturing in the U.S. would be exempt.

"Starting October 1st, 2025, we will be imposing a 100% Tariff on any branded or patented Pharmaceutical Product, unless a Company IS BUILDING their Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plant in America," Trump posted on his social media site, Truth Social, on Thursday.
