** Gold prices hit a record high, boosted by a weaker dollar, safe-haven demand amid the U.S. government shutdown and soft jobs data that reinforced Fed rate cut expectations

** Top miners Newmont NEM.N and Barrick Mining ABX.TO rise 1.9% and 2.4%, respectively

** U.S.-listed shares of South African miners Gold Fields GFI.N rises 1%, AngloGold Ashanti AU.N gains 2.9% and Harmony Gold HMY.N up 2.3%

** Canadian miners Agnico Eagle Mines AEM.TO rises 1.3% and Kinross Gold K.TO up 1.8%
