Chery Automobile (HKG:9973) and Great Wall Motor (HKG:2333, SHA:601633) are planning to begin car assembly in South Africa to meet demand, Bloomberg reported Friday.
Chery, which recently went public in Hong Kong, expects to decide on a complete knock-down plant within the next three to six months, the chief executive of the company's South Africa unit, Tony Liu, reportedly told Bloomberg.
Meanwhile, GWM is in talks with local assemblers to begin joint manufacturing of pick-ups, the COO of the firm's local unit reportedly said in an interview.
