US FUTURES EDGE UP WITH FOCUS ON FED SPEAKERS

U.S. equity index futures were pointing towards a modestly higher open on Tuesday, a day after the S&P 500 .SPX notched its 32nd record close of the year, as investors await comments from a bevy of Federal Reserve officials for insight on the path of monetary policy.

On the docket for Tuesday include Bank of Atlanta President Raphael Bostic, Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman, Governor Stephen Miran and Minneapolis President Neel Kashkari.

With the government shutdown now in its seventh day, investors may put a greater emphasis on Fed commentary due to a dearth of economic data.

Late on Monday, Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank President Jeff Schmid signaled he is disinclined to cut interest rates further, arguing that as the Fed navigates between the twin risks of overly tight and overly easy policy, it should stay focused on the danger of too-high inflation.

Movers before the opening bell include Intercontinental Exchange ICE.N, which was up about 4% in premarket trade after the New York Stock Exchange parent said it would invest as much as $2 billion in prediction market Polymarket.

On the downside, chip testing firm Aehr Systems AEHR.O plummeted nearly 18% after reporting its quarterly results.
