Energy stocks rose Monday afternoon with the NYSE Energy Sector Index and the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE) each gaining 0.6%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index increased 0.6%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index added 0.5%.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 1.2% to $61.60 a barrel, and global benchmark Brent advanced 1.3% to $65.37 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures gained 2.4% to $3.41 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, W&T Offshore (WTI) stock jumped 15% after Chief Executive Officer Tracy Krohn bought about 286,800 shares, adding to holdings.
