Remy Cointreau Likely to Report Weak Quarter on China Challenges -- Market Talk

1044 GMT - Remy Cointreau will likely report the weakest quarter of its fiscal year, "with the Chinese market still severely challenged," Barclays analysts Laurence Whyatt and Ashutosh Jain write in a research note. The French liquor maker is scheduled to publish sales figures for its fiscal second quarter on Oct. 30. "Hope remains that the Chinese market will eventually improve, but we still do not anticipate a return to the strong growth of cognac characterized by the prepandemic rates," the analysts say. Barclays anticipates an organic sales decline of 9.5% in the quarter. While the performance in the U.S. seems to be improving, the company will be hit by tariffs, which could hurt profitability in the first half, Barclays says. Shares fall 4.2%.
