Ameresco Inc. has announced a $197 million Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) with the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL). The project, coordinated through the U.S. Army Engineering Support Center in Huntsville, aims to modernize critical infrastructure across the NRL's Washington, D.C. campus and Chesapeake Bay Detachment. Planned improvements include upgrades to boiler and chiller plants, site-wide LED lighting and controls, retrofits to steam distribution and plumbing systems, and enhanced cooling tower technologies. The initiative will also implement a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for real-time infrastructure management. Ameresco expects the project to generate $12.5 million in annual cost savings and more than $362 million in total savings over a 21-year performance period.
