Philadelphia Fed President Anna Paulson is expected to speak on the economic outlook before the National Association for Business Economics 67th Annual Meeting, "Global Economy in Transition: Finding Opportunity Amid Disruption" (1255/1655).

REST OF THE WEEK

As the third-quarter earnings season kicks off next week, investors will turn their focus to results from major U.S. banks, which are expected to set the tone for corporate profits and the broader market outlook. On Tuesday, JPMorgan Chase is expected to report a rise in third-quarter profit, boosted by investment banking fees amid a dealmaking rebound and public listings. On the same day, Goldman Sachs is expected to post a higher third-quarter profit, as a dealmaking rebound boosts investment banking fees at the Wall Street giant. Investors will focus on executive commentary around the M&A pipeline along with plans for capital deployment. Separately, Bank of America is expected to report a rise in third-quarter profit on Wednesday, as a rebound in big ticket deals is set to boost performance in its investment banking division. Also on Wednesday, Morgan Stanley is expected to report a rise in third-quarter profit, helped by a rebound in dealmaking that helped its investment bankers. Meanwhile, Citigroup is expected to report a rise in third-quarter profit on Tuesday, helped by a strong performance in its investment banking arm.

Among Federal Reserve events through the week, Chair Jerome Powell is set to speak on the economic outlook and monetary policy before the National Association for Business Economics Annual Meeting on Tuesday. Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman will participate in a discussion before the 2025 Institute of International Finance Annual Membership Meeting on Tuesday. Bowman will also speak virtually before the 2025 Federal Reserve Stress Testing Research Conference hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston on Thursday. On the same day, Fed Board Governor Christopher Waller will participate in "Payments" discussion before the 2025 Institute of International Finance Annual Membership Meeting. Separately, On Thursday, Waller is set to speak on the economic outlook before the Council on Foreign Relations' C. Peter McColough Series on International Economics. Waller is also expected to speak on artificial intelligence before the 2025 DC Fintech Week event on Wednesday. On Friday, St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem will discuss the U.S. economy and monetary policy before the Institute for International Finance Annual Membership Meeting. On Thursday, Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari is set to participate in a town hall hosted by Elevate Rapid City. Meanwhile, Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic is set to participate in moderated conversation and Q&A on "Economic Mobility" before the United Way Regional Summit on Economic Mobility for Children and Youth on Wednesday. On the same day, Fed Board Governor Stephen Miran will participate in conversation before the Nomura Research Forum. On Thursday, Miran will participate in conversation before the 2025 Institute of International Finance Annual Membership Meeting. Miran is also expected to participate in a conversation before the Semafor Fall 2025 World Economy Summit on the same day. Richmond Fed President Thomas Barkin will speak on "Staying Sanguine About the Horizon" before virtual Aiken County Chamber of Commerce event on Thursday. On the same day, Vice Chair for Supervision Michael Barr will speak on "Stablecoins" before 2025 DC Fintech Week event. Separately on Tuesday, Boston Fed President Susan Collins will participate in a moderated question-and-answer session before the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce.

With the U.S. government shutdown in place, most official economic data releases remain suspended, though the Bureau of Labor Statistics said it would publish September’s consumer inflation report on Oct. 24 to assist the Social Security Administration in determining the 2026 cost-of-living adjustment. The CPI data was originally scheduled for release Wednesday, but the shutdown, which began on Oct. 1 after funding lapsed, has delayed its publication along with other key indicators scheduled for next week, including the producer price index, retail sales, housing starts and trade data. It remains uncertain whether these releases will take place next week or face further delays. Separately, the Federal Reserve's Beige Book, formally known as the Summary of Commentary on Current Economic Conditions by Federal Reserve District, is set to be released on Wednesday.

Johnson & Johnson reports third-quarter results before markets open on Tuesday. Investors will closely watch for any changes to the company's 2025 forecasts. Focus will also be on the company's exposure to the Trump administration's tariff and drug pricing policies.

BlackRock is expected to post higher third-quarter revenue on Tuesday, lifted by strong ETF inflows and rising markets that boosted fee income, according to analysts.

American Express is expected to report higher third-quarter profit on Friday as its affluent customers continue to spend. Analysts and investors will watch the outlook for the rest of the year, with the all-important holiday season approaching.

Charles Schwab is expected to report a rise in third-quarter profit on Thursday, as the brokerage firm was helped by a higher income from trading. Separately, asset manager State Street is expected to report a rise in third-quarter profit on Friday, benefiting from higher management fees amid a rallying equities market. Meanwhile, BNY is expected to report a rise in third-quarter profit on Thursday, as the world's largest custodian bank gains from higher interest income and fee revenue.

Domino's Pizza is expected to post a rise in third-quarter revenue on Tuesday, driven by demand for its value offerings and new menu additions. Investors will look out for comments on pricing actions, consumer spending pattern and new promotional or menu initiatives for 2026.

PNC Financial is expected to report a rise in third-quarter profit on Wednesday, boosted by robust net interest income. Separately, Citizens Financial is also expected to post higher third-quarter earnings on Wednesday, benefiting from rising net interest income. Meanwhile, M&T Bank is forecast to report increased third-quarter profit on Thursday, driven by stronger interest earnings. Also on Thursday, U.S. Bancorp is expected to post a rise in profit, helped by higher income from interest. Furthermore, KeyCorp is projected to report a higher third-quarter profit on Thursday, fueled by a surge in interest income. On Friday, Fifth Third Bancorp is expected to report a rise in profit, supported by stronger net interest income. The results will be the first since its announcement to acquire Comerica in a $10.9 billion deal. Lastly, Regions Financial is expected to report a rise in third-quarter profit on Friday, helped by higher interest income and a jump in fees and commissions.

On Thursday, Marsh McLennan is expected to report a rise in third-quarter profit, helped by a strong performance in its risk and insurance services unit.

On Tuesday, a monthly update on Boeing's orders and deliveries activity is expected. The company is attempting to raise 737 MAX output to 42 aircraft a month. At the same time, Airbus' A320 jet just surpassed the 737 as the most sold commercial aircraft.

Jamie Selway, director of trading and markets at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, appears in conversation at the annual membership meeting of the Institute of International Finance on Thursday. On the following day, Paul Atkins, chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, appears in conversation at the same event.

On Tuesday, Hester Peirce, the Republican member of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission heading up the agency's new crypto task force, appears in conversation at the annual membership meeting of the Institute of International Finance.

Abbott Laboratories is expected to give its third-quarter results on Wednesday. Investor focus will be on the performance of its cardiovascular and glucose monitoring devices along with comments on tariff impact.

On Wednesday, Paul Atkins, chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, addresses the annual DC Fintech Week industry conference in Washington.

Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem will speak to Canadian reporters on the sidelines of the IMF/World Bank meetings in DC on Friday.

On Wednesday, Statistics Canada is likely to report factory sales fell 1.5% in August. Sales rose 2.5% in the month prior. On the same day, wholesale trade data for August is expected. The federal statistics agency has said it might have to postpone releasing September international trade data next month if the U.S. government shutdown drags on. Housing starts numbers for September are expected to be released on Thursday. The seasonally adjusted annualized rate of housing starts likely totaled 255, 000 units last month, up from 245,791 units in August. Canada's August building permits data are scheduled for release on Tuesday.

In Latin America, Brazil’s August IBC-BR Economic Activity Index, which previously fell 0.50%, is due for release on Thursday. Separately, October's inflation reading in Brazil as measured by the IGP-10 price index is expected on Friday. Separately, On Tuesday, the country's services activity data for August is set for release. On Tuesday, Argentina's September inflation data is set for release. Brazil's August retail sales figures are due on Wednesday.
