DoorDash, Waymo Partner on Autonomous Delivery Service

DoorDash and Waymo are teaming up to launch an autonomous delivery service in the Phoenix metro area.

Testing is already under way, with broader commercial operations expected to roll out later this year, the companies said Thursday.

Through the partnership, DoorDash customers in Phoenix will be able to receive orders from participating merchants via Waymo's fully autonomous vehicles. The service will initially be limited to deliveries from DashMart--DoorDash's chain of convenience, grocery and retail stores--before expanding to additional retailers over time.

David Richter, DoorDash's vice president of business and corporate development, said the collaboration aims to give customers more value, convenience and access, while simultaneously advancing the company's vision for autonomous local commerce.

The partnership comes after DoorDash earlier this month partnered with delivery company Serve Robotics. Under that partnership, Serve's robots will start making deliveries for DoorDash in Los Angeles.
